>> When i did the results above, i did it of my own pc in a seperate room, not the computer where my router is situation, does this matter?

The figures will be the same regardless from where you accessed it.

>> Re Do you have a BT NTE5A master socket? If so can you connect to the Test Socket and post the resulting stats please

Quite often connecting via the master socket/test socket can make a difference to the condition of your connection - and also eliminate the possibility of any problems with internal wiring.

The best thing to do would be reboot the router and take a set of new stats at the current location to see if they are any better.
Then also try from the master socket to see if theres any difference between the 2.

An NTE5 looks something like this

Theres a bit more info on the test socket and how to access it here

Another thing - my phone line is with Post Office and not BT.  My dad seems to remember having this problem a while ago, he phoned post office and they wasn't interested as our Broadband isn't with them.

GRRRRR.

Anyway, like i say, will turn off router tonight for 10 mins, restart and post results.

i see the line Attenuation as gone from 45Db to 50Db unless you have moved this should not change

Those figures alone are "reasonable" though not wonderful.
The changed attenuation is however strange  :-\

Have you found the NTE5a or master socket yet?

Edit: Post Office or BT is irrelevant to this problem.

Hi DeeeeeJ,

If you'd like to help yourself and add to Kitz's fantastic encyclopaedia of broadband anomalies it would be good for you to record your actual speeds obtained and the refreshed modem line parameters.

I think we can confidently expect that this will not be the last time your ADSL takes a half-holiday and keeping records of the vital statistics is a much more secure way of making comparisons.

Kind regards,
Walter

Hello again people.

Right, just to let you all know my connection has been fine since the advice you gave me, simply turning my router on then off for a few minutes.

However, over the past coiple of days or so i keep losing my connection, when i look at my router the middle light has gone off, flashes orange for a few seconds then goes green again.  When it's  back green i can connect to the internet again straight away.

This is annoying as it happened a few times a day? Any suggestions why or what it means?

Thanks

We would need to see the current router stats to understand what's happening.

Looking at those stats the sync is a bit low for your attenuation.

According to this you should be seeing a sync speed of 4832kbps and throughput of around 4.5-4.6meg

It seems your target SNR is 12dB but you don't have any spare - meaning that your line is "short" of margin which it needs to get to those faster speeds.

However, I would have thought the target SNR should be 6dB to achieve better speeds.

I am sure the other gurus will advise or correct my post  :)

Hi

quote Jid :It seems your target SNR is 12dB

From this it seems that you must have had some line problems and your SNR target has gone up . This will take some time to revert back at beast about 2 weeks for every 3 db . That is if your line is stable . Routerstats graphs would be useful to see trends .
