As a general point, I would say that all-in-ones have every advantage and no disadvantage. It's very handy that you can use them as stand alone photocopiers. I've been using a C4180 for a couple of years now, and really I have nothing bad to say about it, except that the HP cartridges are expensive, and it uses a single tricolour cartridge. HP printers and scanners are very well supported in Linux as well.

Thanks Eric.That sounds encouraging  :)
Did you use the hplid drivers off the disc or download them ?.

I have just noticed 'synaptic' has some hplip drivers. ;)

Most distros will have hplip in their repositories. If you install hplip-gui as well as hplip, you get a friendly management utility, but the KDE Control Centre does a perfectly good job of installing the printer without the -gui package.
