I went to Derby yesterday and had a look at the cathedral from the cathedral green and I could see the Peregrines flying around and just could see mums head in the nest box.  :)
Lunch also fly's around the cathedral in the form of pigeons  :(.

I'm so pleased that I made the effort to walk to the cathedral this morning while in Derby again.

It's not far from Derby city center, I walked down Amen Alley at the side of the cathedral (you can just see a bit of it in the photo by 'scottiesmum ' above ) from there I spotted one parent on the rainwater spout above the nest box.   :) .

I then walked across Full st. to the cathedral green at the back of the cathedral and there was a man and woman with a telescope set up and they let me have a look at the bird I spotted on the spout and then I had a look at the chicks in the nest box.

I could only stop for 10 mins. and this one parent flew off  :(, but 5 mins later there was such a din above us, it was both parents letting the chicks know that lunch was being delivered, they both landed on the nest box and one was on guard and the other fed the chicks. :)

Both the chicks and the parents are a lot bigger then I thought.

Pigeon again methinks  !!        I was quite alarmed earlier as I could only see three chicks  .....  but after waiting for several minutes it became obvious that one of the chicks likes having a look around   !!

There is a video on the site this am showing the chicks being "ringed" yesterday............and being identified as two males, two females.... ;D

Worth watching the video as it gives a very good impression of just how big these chicks are..........huge.. :)

I  suppose they ring them with the best of intentions but I really didn't enjoy seeing the chicks under obvious stress and the terrible distress of the parent birds  ....... they belong to nature not to us ..... I feel quite sick now   :(      ....      as you say TD they are huge aren't they.

I agree with you about the ringing, Kate. I've never felt comfortable seeing wild birds grabbed for this purpose, although I know it's done for conservation reasons.

I'm sorry..........it was very unthoughtful of me to link to something that you find distasteful..............I did not intend to offend.
