Right, I think i'm back!
After emptying out my router connection I had found that my 2Wire could handle the problem better than the Speedtouch - i.e. It wasn't restarting or losing connection.
BUT... My problem came to a head this afternoon when all the kit in my study had a quick power interruption.
I went out to check the consumer board to see if any of the MCBs had tripped (even though I knew power to my study was back on) and when I opened the utility room door I could smell that nasty burnt plastic/electrical smell you get when something is wrong!
Luckily for me I managed to catch my electrician neighbour just as he was going out. After taking the cover off the consumer unit he found the wires to my study circuit were floating around and two of the MCBs had melted sections around the connections!!! (You would have hoped the things would have tripped rather than just got hotter! All
decent MK kit as well)
So after replacing the MCBs and cutting out the damaged wires I hope I'm all back to 'normal'.
I've put my trusty 585v6 back in to play. As long as the electrical stuff is sorted then hopefully I can get back to a 6db Target SNR in time...
I'm glad it wasn't a BT/ISP type thing as I hoped I was starting to understand how things hang together.
It seems whatever happens to me it's all somehow connected to my ADSL
