Wilko's (Wilkinsons) sell it by the metre ... they even supply a 1 ruler and wire cutters for you to do it yourself !!  and when i went to the till with my length they just asked 'how much have you got' and took my word for it  :)

So you re-wired the whole house for £1.50   :D

    At least I'm on your wavelength  ;)

Edit.  It reminds me of the loose nails they use to sell  ;)

Went out this morning to buy 2 metres of 2-core electrical flex, everywhere I went they only sold it in a pack minimum 5 metres! When asked why one assistant said it was something to do with Trading Standards, you either buy a drum of 25 or 50 metres or it comes pre-packed.

Has the world gone mad?

I remember several years ago trying in desperation to purchase about 10 meters of CAT5 cable.. spent the best part of the day being unsuccessful :(

A friend of mine almost did that. For reasons of domestic harmony he has to connect his router to an extension socket which is a long way from the master socket. He's also on a very long line, so I suggested that he rewire the extension with Cat5e cable (which he could route in such a way that it wouldn't result in divorce :) ). Being a skinflint, he got an old reel of single core cable, took it out in the garden, and used an electric drill to twist two long lengths of it together. It did actually work, and made a significant improvement in his ADSL performance.

Hehe - excellent - in fact I guess there's no reason it wouldn't work... and it obviously did!
