Suggestions for copying and backing up
« on: February 13, 2009, 07:19:24 AM »

Hi could anyone suggest a good reliable tool I can use for backing up my files onto CD, CDRW, DVD, DVDRW and one that can also copy CDs/DVDs.  I would like one that can be used on XP and Vista so that I can use it on desktop and laptop.  At the moment I have Nero on desktop and Sonic RecordNow on laptop.  When I try to use one CD/DVD recored on one of the above the other does not allow me to change the info and says read only.  Am I just being stupid and there is a simple way of correcting this or is it better to have just one recording program to make life easier?  Your advise would be much appreciated.

Once files are written to a CD or DVD they automatically become read only.

What you need to do once they have been copied back onto the HDD is to select the files/s followed by "Properties" then remove the check mark which says "Read only"

That will solve the read only problem.

As for backup software I only use Norton Ghost which is not a free program, and with the new versions (v10+) I believe it will also do what you want it to do.
