  • If it ain't broke....... I'll soon fix it.

After a recent question of how to disable the notification each time a possible virus was found when running a scan, I think I may have found a way around the problem. Although it's not perfect it does work.

First of all go to "Settings" then go to "Confirmation" now in the bottom panel marked "Uncheck confirmation message to disable them (and vice versa)" then remove the checkmark on the line that says "Message when error occurred during results processing" (second line down)

By removing the checkmark from the box detailed above, if during a scan you receive a warning.
What you must then do is to place a checkmark in the box that says "Don't show this dialog next time" then press "Continue"
The scan will then continue and give the complete results at the end of the scan without notifying you of any other occurrences, you must then decide what to do with the result (if any).

However, because you need to wait for that first message to appear which may take some time, what I did was create a folder and place a file (Keygen) in it which I know is not a virus although it keeps being flagged as a virus if I try to open it.

I named this folder "1 TEST" (without the quotes) and placed it in my C: root drive.
(Any name will do, but it must start with the number 1 then it will always be the first folder in the list to be scanned)

Now when a scan is run that folder is checked first, and almost straightaway I can then place the tick in the box and continue, thus leaving me then to walk away from the PC until the complete scan has finished.

If there is a alternative solution, then please let us know. "Thanks"

This is one thing that really annoys be about some of the AV progs today.. in that they seem to flag up a lot of stuff that isnt harmful and you want to keep, but there seems do easy way to say - yes thats ok - dont keep bugging me about it.

Typical examples are
keygens
Source code Ive written for progs.
A couple of networking type tools that are useful.

I did a full system scan the other day and it was driving me nuts at some of the really stupid things it was pulling up.

1.  but there seems do easy way to say - yes thats ok - dont keep bugging me about it.

1. Did you mean to say "but there does not seem to be a way to say - yes thats ok - dont keep bugging me about it."
Because that's one of the options that Avast does not seem to have also.

2. Like yourself I have quite few things that get flagged as possible Trojans/Virus's and for me just to sit here watching and waiting to be able to dismiss each message one-by-one would probably be in the region of 6 to 8 hours to do a full scan. And there is no way I am going to do that.
Again in the past that was another reason I stopped using Avast

Even though I am not using the free version of Avast, these things are still lacking in the program, but now with the added folder in each of my 7 drives  (which are also set as hidden so as not to annoy me also) doing even a full scan can now be done when I go out or go to bed without the bother.

This was taken from another the VNU forum but firstly I tried it and it did not work.
But that could also be down to me not using it properly, but will post this info anyway has you may get it to work.

To achieve what you want, you have to use the Enhanced User Interface
(well, you could also use the command-line scanner, but I guess that's not exactly what you're looking for)

 - create a new task there (e.g. as a copy of one of the predefined tasks),

open its properties and modify the "Virus" page to configure the action to take when a virus is found.
If you clear the action box completely (using the "Delete last word" button), avast! won't do anything when it finds a virus and just continues with the scan.

When the scan has finished, you can deal with the detected files by selecting the corresponding results and using the right mouse buttom to bring up the context menu with the actions.

The bloke who wrote it is on the Alwil team, so he should know what he's talking about....
