My computer and Control Panel !
« on: January 20, 2009, 10:42:19 PM »

Well as a lot of you know I use Linux now .
My wife still keeps in touch with her old school teacher who is now in her 70's and had a computer for the first time, so she came over to us for some help.
She has MS Vista Home on it, Now I'm ok up to XP but I have not used Vista before.
I expected to find My Computer or Control Panel some place, but could not .
Does it have it ?.
If not how do you see the HDD etc ?
Whats in place of Control Panel.?

That's the first and logical place I looked and I could not believe it was NOT there !.

Being It's MS operating system I asked her if she ever Defraged the hdd, what's that she replied, so me being the  computer expert in her eyes could not find the above

I would expect to see computer and control panel even if she was in a user account, unless it's been set in the registry to not be there because her son works for a computer firm and he may have set it so his mum does not fiddle .
I think I will keep away from it unless she asks for help again.

Probably a wise decision, you know how possessive some people can be of systems they have set up.

I used to work on one of my neighbours PC (after one of her relations has been on it) who re-alters all the settings that she is used too, so now I refuse to work on it as long as she keeps letting this so-called computer buff lose on it.
