I second that.A lot of less inexperienced users are not aware about unnecessary programs/processes  throttling start up.

Many applications choose to add themselves to the start up list as default when installed... more savvy users will always keep an eye on the Services console (located in admin tools if anyone is wondering).

So is just a case of opening admin tools,then in the start up section,unticking the programmes you don't want on PC start up ?

Uncy, basically what you have to do is double click on the entry in the services console and change the 'start-up type' to 'manual' (from the drop down list).  Don't change it to 'disabled' or you won't be able to use the application at all.

You will find that stuff such as Ad-aware will add itself to start-up, even though you might only use it weekly... so just keep an eye out.  There's much more in the Windows Tweak Guide about what is essential, what you can disable, etc from start-up.

Yes UB,i only have avast and zone-alarm at startup and pc starts in about 75 secs.I have 2 user accounts but a tweak bypasses the options page and loads my main one.I dont know if it slows the pc up at startup having the 2 accounts set up,probably does

Very interesting articles . BTW SpybotSD has tools that show the programs at start up. It also gives information about them to help decide whether they are required . It allows the programs to be stopped temporarily or permanently.
