Start up sequence on Windows Vista Advent PC
« on: December 12, 2008, 04:52:01 PM »

Hi Guys I hope you can help me.

I purchased a PC from PC World and as usual when there there is a problem it is difficult to get them to sort it. Anyway I have Windows Vista spec as below:

Computer Advent AMD Phenom X4  ACPL1 x 86 – BASED PC

PROCESSERS AMD PHENOM (TM9550 QUAD CORE)

STORAGE CONTROLLER
AT1 AHC1 COMPATIABLE RAID CONTROLLER
ATI RAID CONSOLE
MICROSOFT ISCSI INITIATER

When I turn the computer on it will go through it's start up sequence until the icon you have set up with your name comes up. It stays for 3 seconds then starts the sequence again and continues. I can get into the computer through the “last good configuration” but that's the only way. It will not go in through the safe mode.

How do I solve the problem? Please be gentle not the best on computers.

Many thanks

F

It could be almost anything, registry corruption is one possibility.
I've never found "last known good" to achieve anything useful.

Do you have an installation disk for Vista, if so you might be able to try a system restore?

I purchased a PC

How long ago did you purchase it and have you tried a "System Restore" going back to when you know it worked properly?

If you have the Vista installation disc, then you can boot from that and do a "Repair" as one of the options (eventually) presented.

hi frazter1 and welcome.

if its a phenom cpu you have then its gonna be quite a new machine.

in which case your problem might be a factory pre- installation mess-up and i would recommend a recovery to reinstall windows and associated software.

to do this, turn on the machine and start pressig F8 straight away and keep pressing once a second until you see a 'advanced boot menu'.  on there the first option will be 'repair your computer', press enter on it and follow the on-screen instruction to reset the machine.

be warned that that this process will delete all user data so backup before you go ahead.

any queries with it, give a holla
