Following a long discussion
here I got interested in this router and I've been experimenting with its features. On my line it's proving to be the most stable router (out of many) which I've used. Routerstats can be configured to work with it in two different ways - the normal web page method and the experimental telnet method. The telnet method has been described by broadstairs
here and works well, except that on my system it was subject to frequent 'lack of response' glitches.
To get it working using the web page method you can use the RouterStats.ini file described
here. This works perfectly with the 2.73 version of the firmware, and doesn't require a browser window to be opened first, as has been suggested elsewhere.
Incidentally, to upgrade the DSL-2740B firmware you can use Firefox or (presumably) any other browser. However the 2.61 firmware comes as a file with a .cfk extension, and you have to change this to .bin before Firefox will succeed in the upgrade.
