There was a Beaumont Cut  in Essex     (which is now disused)     Mont   ... could be the High bit ....   Beau  the quality   (perhaps  ;D)   and as it's in your   old AA book  the disused bit fits in ! :-\    so that's my offering   ;D   :'(

There is a river Great Eau in Lincolnshire (on which there is a wildfowl sanctuary at Belleau............equally french in origin.)  :-\

Are we perhaps in Waterford in Hertfordshire ??     Water as in damp ....  and a could a ford be classed as a partition   ..... it separates two river banks I suppose  ?  :-\

The Berlin wall was part of the iron curtain, and partitioned Berlin, so I guess 'wall' comes into it...
