US teacher detains student for using Linux

I have been trying to get my daughters school to use Linux. ;) but it may be along job.

I have a set of 6 fixed IP's From  Eclipse  isp.BT ADSL2(G992.3) line>HG612 as a Modem, Bridge, WAN Not Bound to LAN1 or 2 + Also have FTTP (G.984) No One isp Fixed IP >Dual WAN pfSense (Hardware Firewall and routing).> Two WAN's, Ethernet LAN, DMZ LAN, Zyxel GS1100-24 Switch.

Depressing, isn't it? One might hope that teachers had a bit more objectivity and open-mindedness, but sadly it's frequently not the case.

Something Ive just realised - that report was last month and the teacher and site owner have now 'made up'.

That's one of the biggest problems especially on the internet with either bad news, first reactions or half the story articles.
As it's very rare that we end-up seeing the second instalment or final outcome, thus leaving us with out first impressions.

Good follow up.  :)

Any of you that work in schools know that network security is a priority and if you know what you are doing a Linux disc can be a problem unless you have your network  tied down well.

But if it's well thought out it can work well letting the children play  work with open source.

I do believe that 'Becta' is helping schools now by not recommending the use of MS products and using Linux.  :)
