Linux Books
« on: December 12, 2008, 02:13:25 PM »

For Christmas my BH has suggested a Linux book since I keep talking about it (and generally being boring!) and I am trying to find some general books on Linux. Two that have had some quite good reviews are Linux in a Nutshell (O'Reilly) and Linux Cookbook by Stutz. This last led me to the O'Reilly Cookbook which is a further possibility. I do like the O'Reilly approach (I already have some of their publications) but really I'm looking for comments from someone who has used any of these. I'm aware that there is a wealth of information on the various Linux sites but being "old school" I do like the printed word. What would be your choice, please?

I haven't personally read any recent Linux books, but Linux in a Nutshell seems to be pretty well universally recommended, and O'Reilly is very well respected as a publisher of books which cover their subjects well without unnecessary blather.
