Just to reiterate on my earlier comment of, this is all well and good for general surfing, but not where you need to register.

The only other option would be to get a second modem and change them over.

Test results:

Yes it works.

Broadband only:

Broadband and Dialup connected at same time.

:hmm:  So not as easy after all...

Yes that was easy but costs money, but I had to dial into accounts anyway.

If you have a 56K modem and a dialup account give it a try.

Note your IP http://www.whatsmyip.org

Close IE/FF

Start the dialup account and go to http://www.whatsmyip.org to view your IP and see if it changed.

BUT

If you are a mod on a board is it worth the risk of being banned?

One may be Orange and the other Virgin

Earlier you said you had a Virgin account, so why not use the free service?

You misunderstood or I did.

I have a virgin dialup account not a broadband account.

Am I right in thinking you have to have Cable to get it free?

Obviously a miss-understanding as previously you did not say it was Virgin dialup.
But yes, it's free if you have BB.

Or at least a very good friends account number and password.

I must add a caveat to this thread, whilst connecting with dial up, your IP address will still be recorded and if you cause any offfence you can still be reported/traced back via the dial-up address you used.

IP addresses are there for a reason and if you do something under another IP that causes offence then you can still be reported and if serious enough tracked back.  Afterall there does have to be some record somewhere in an attempt to protect our kids from the likes of paedophiles etc.

On top of that, if discovered, then most forums will take a stern view of 'multi-iding' and ban any users caught doing such thing.
There are some forums that will approve their staff or certain members a 'play name'* but it is usually in the case of  if say normally posts in an official capacity on the tech type boards, but wants to let their hair down a little in chitchat... on the provision that they dont attempt to mislead anyone.

*just to clarify
- its not something done on this site.

Hi,im banned from computeractive for daring to tell the deputy editor to include the price of a pc tower and operating system when quoting a price regarding a poster(Aardwollf) wondering if he should build or buy a pc.
You can visit their forum through a proxy server, but each page takes 1 minute to load,so its not worth wasting your time IMO.
