Thanks UB - yes I still need one and am on the lookout.

I havent done anything yet about it, because after looking at specs last week, I thought I'd decided which one I wanted, but Im pretty sure that play has been messing with prices again, and its gone up another tenner  :(

This on offer today from a mailshot I got from ebuyer seems a good deal too.

Epson Stylus SX200 - Multifunction Printer. was £71.41 reduced to £39.99.

The problem now is that I had a really unexpected bill which I had to pay out £100 deposit for last week, and the remaining £98 this morning  :'(

I like Epson.

Currently using R300, works fine with compatible cartridges at less than "£6.00" per set of 6.
Previous Epson also worked good with compatibles.

I have just had a look at the above Epson SX200 and also the Canon Pixma MP540.I am thinking of getting an all-in-one to replace my HP photosmart.I don't want to pay a lot so I wonder if anyone had any comments,pros/cons on the above models.

The Epson SX200 is even cheaper at Staples.

That is a good price.

I have only had an HP printer, just curious about other peoples feelings towards,Canon and Epson,ie,ink costs etc.

My Canon IP5200 produces cracking colour photos and is quite fast for normal text printing. I was very cross when I first got it to discover that genuine Canon carts are at least £7 each and there are 5 of them! However you can get compatibles without the chip for about £2 each and changing the chip is quick and easy after the first one. But if you want to use your printer with Linux don't buy Canon - no drivers and Canon aren't interested.

I have not researched the costs of ink, but would say that the choice ( if it were me ) would be the Canon, as it appears to be more photo orientated, even doing borderless, whereas the Epson appears to be more of an "office" machine........great for text etc but lagging behind in the photo stakes.

Depends on what your main end purpose is.

I don't print as many photo's out as I use to(I tend to use snap fish now). What I would like to do is have an all in one so I can scan a lot of my old photo's onto the computer.Don't really want to go down the scanner only route,so I thought a multi function would be ideal.
What I don't like about HP is being constantly reminded that my cartridges have expired and need changing, when they are more than half full in some cases. >:(
So I fancy a change and tbh in some cases its nearly as cheap to get a new printer than to replace all the ink tanks.

I have not researched the costs of ink,..........

I realise that comment is regarding this topic, but in general that can be a very costly error for the future.

Epson printers may not be the cheapest, but ink replacement is the cheapest.
(based on compatible cartridge prices, "definitely not genuine cartridges")

A friend of mine brought a cheap Lexmark printer only to discover later that the cartridges are quite small and at £19 each and there are no compatibles around.
