Virgin media has now published the results of tests they performed showing which speedtesters can accurately measure speeds of up to 20Mb.
- Something which some of us are already aware of.

What we found was surprising – we always suspected that some speed tests out there weren’t able to keep up with our speeds, but we never realised just how bad some of them are. We were quite disappointed to find that nearly all the sites our broadband boffins tested provided inaccurate results. In fact when we tested our 20Mb test connection – some of the speed tests couldn’t even report half the true speed, reporting way less than 10Mb. As we’re sure you’d agree that’s pretty disappointing, and potentially very misleading.

Hmmmm, interesting.
I tend to use:
Thinkbroadband
Speedtest.net, Maidenhead (then London)
Visualware Myspeed
Broadbandmax

So I'm slightly sceptical...........

All of which seem capable of dealing with 20mbps plus.

It's an interesting report, but the name "Virgin Media" at its head doesn't fill me with confidence about its accuracy.

Hmm I have always found that ThinkBroadband gives lower readings than Speedtest.net (london) or BBMax (they are the same servers anyway I believe?)

What is funny is their tbbMeter gives more accurate speed test results than their web app. Most likely as the application uses HTTP.

I find AAISP's speedtester is quite accurate for download speed measurement - sod.ms/fast

Speedtest.net say to click the yellow triangle to select a server, but there is not one for London so how do they work that one?

On my 10Mb connection Speedtest.net has usually been pretty accurate.

Just run it, Unc and get almost the same readings as at Speedtest (London), and it says 'Excellent' for the test results.

Incidentally, for anyone using Speedtest, the Maidenhead pyramid, which for my area was supposed to be the recommended test site, has now been removed and Dublin replaced as my recommended site.
I will still use London, which is the one that Virgin tests showed to be accurate.
It also pays to stick to the one location for checking speeds, because when I used Maidenhead and then London straight after I was getting 2,000 kbs difference on download.

I can see London . Maidenhead is down .my prefered one (yellow) today is Dublin.

Never seen the Dublin one before.
But like you said, it pays to stick with the same one.
Although I did try a USA West coast one once and got far better results, but I put that down to the time of day/night at the time.
