I think I will start posting daily tracerts to bore you guys of those too!!!         (kiddin!) ;)

Yes it is Interleaved, 8ms delay.

However Speedtest.net still shows:-

Which is shocking and is evidence of some congestion surely?

Seriously though I always ignore what the ping says for speedtest.net

The IP address of the London server for speedtest.net is 85.233.160.167

Look at this

Code: [Select]
Tracing route to gonzales.namesco.net [85.233.160.167]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1    64 ms    99 ms    99 ms  192.168.1.254
  2     *        *        *     Request timed out.
  3    14 ms    15 ms    15 ms  10.1.2.1
  4    15 ms    15 ms    14 ms  linx-gw1.plus.net [195.66.224.164]
  5    15 ms    14 ms    15 ms  vl23.thn-gw2.plus.net [212.159.4.20]
  6    15 ms    16 ms    17 ms  thn1-gi0-2.namesco.net [212.159.2.10]
  7    15 ms    15 ms    15 ms  thn2-gi0-1.namesco.net [195.7.224.254]
  8    15 ms    16 ms    15 ms  the1-gi0-1.namesco.net [195.7.224.242]
  9    15 ms    14 ms    14 ms  gonzales.namesco.net [85.233.160.167]

Trace complete.

then this:-

Spot the difference - and now you see why I say ignore what speedtest.net tells you.

4    15 ms    15 ms    14 ms  linx-gw1.plus.net [195.66.224.164]
  5    15 ms    14 ms    15 ms  vl23.thn-gw2.plus.net [212.159.4.20]

Plusnet aren't related to Be* are they  ;D

Anyways speeds and pings are normal again.

Will monitor it this evening as it could be Peak time congestion...

Be supposedly put in some new transit links a couple of weeks or so ago, and I also noticed some new peer-points.
Looks like they are now also using plusnet for peering at telehouse in docklands. A couple of years ago Plusnet at one point (dont know if its still true or not) had the largest links with LoNap who are one of the major peering companies at TH.

So perhaps it was cheaper (and quicker) to 'buy some bandwidth' via plusnet rather than put in their own Gigabit peering. - Who knows?

I seem to be seeing gaps in speedtests that I do using tbbMeter.

I believe that is an indication of congestion?

I also have a dead phone again!

But the snr and gaps etc are all fine.

It is a funny one this....

edit...Just seen this on Tiscali site:-
Quote
LLU Customers will be experiencing problems connecting to the internet and also experiencing slow speed degradation at various Exchanges

Doesn't explain dead phone so may have to ring them...  :([/color]

Dips can be congestion, spikeness can sometimes be an indication of traffic shaping but these are very even type spikes.
Actual gaps is more likely to be loss of transmission of data...  and data having to be re-transmitted for eg a problem somewhere on the line.
