ISPs pass on VAT decrease
« on: December 03, 2008, 06:11:09 PM »

Meant to put this up the other day, but I had other things on my mind ;)  Anyhow...

I spent a joyful few hours the other night updating ISP product prices as regards to those who have passed the new prices on to their users.

Top marks to those ISPs that have passed on the savings, and show the new prices clearly to consumers on their websites.
Raspberry to those ISPs who I had to get the calculator out and work out the changes myself.. :(
and well there are also many who appear not to be passing on any savings.

The list:

ISPs who are passing the changes on to customers

ADSL24 (Entanet)
Be
BT
Clara.net
Demon
Eclipse
Freedom to surf
Fast
IDNet
MadasaFish
Metronet
Newnet
o2
Plusnet
Post Office
Virgin
Zen

Nildram  (there's been a pricing change since my last update so dont know if they are or not)

Waiting Website changes an new prices

Orange - We are planning on passing on the new VAT reduction to customers but are just working through how and when this will happen.
Tiscali - say they will be offering it but VAT is still being displayed at 17.5%

Those who arent/havent so far

AOL
Demon
IDNet
Namesco
O2
Orange
Sky
Supanet
Tiscali
Talktalk
Toucan
UKO
Virgin
Vispa
Vodafone

I see the 'usual suspects' in those that have not passed on the savings.

Suprised to see IDNet on that list though  :o

Well if Tiscali don't pass it on then I will be looking for a new ISP - my connection speed has been painfully slow all day today, so much so that I've been staying off line as much as possible.

At first I thought it was just this site, what with the maintenance, but every where I go pages are typically taking 20-30 seconds to load... it feels like being back on dialup.

I have noticed web pages taking ages to load recently.

I think that their LLU network is beginning to struggle in Peak times a bit...

I know how you feel UB.
But, I have made a few purchases this week and just worked out that in total (so far) I have saved £3.47 because of the VAT reduction.

So whilst like yourself I initially thought "BIG DEAL a saving of 2.5%", but over a month or so this is going to amount to be a decent saving.

We must learn to look at the bigger picture and not concentrate on the minute savings of individual items.

I guess I'll just have to put up with it until I decide to look for a different ISP.  Until then I'll only go online for essentialities (is that a word?).

The thing is it may not be a big deal to us to save say 50p or whatever per month.

But just think how much the ISPs would gain by not passing it on - just multiply it by a few million customers that some of these ISPs have.
We could be easily talking £1 million each and every month for some ISPs. :(

Sites running fine here - quite snappy.  Try doing a speedtest on thinkbroadband.

I thought Sky increased their prices just recently?  :-\ If so I can't see them cutting the price by 2.1% now......
