There is a drop PPoA button in the menu, would this do, or should I just use the on/off switch ?

I may be wrong, but I think that button just drops the PPP session, but leaves the router synced to the exchange. You need to completely disconnect, which should be possible from the config screens. However, I doubt if simply switching it off once a day is going to trigger any reaction at the exchange.

Right, as there is no on/off in the config screens, I'll just switch it off externally.

Is the router plugged into the master socket, or is it on an extension? If so.. it might be worthwhile trying to see about removing the ringwire and other suggestions as per kitz's Low SNR page.

The router is on a BT wired extension (in the room where we had our Home Highway box), so if I can get a long cable I could try it in the master socket
