sunday 30th chat
« on: November 30, 2008, 08:38:41 AM »

Morning  ;D

Another hard frost last night, it's cold, very cold.  :(
Just been down to the river where some of my mates are waddling around wondering why their water has gone all hard...........took a crowbar and broke up the ice for them but it freezing again..............will go again in a bit and repeat the performance.

Note to the bird feeders amongst us....don't forget to put out some warm water into their drinking places, they need to drink too.

Several dead birds, chaffinches and sparrows in the garden today, old age or cold I don't know.

Have a good day whatever you are up to, and stay wrapped up.

ps unkyUb.................how is little Megan getting along ?

 :)

Allo Allo ....    Warm and WET here....   we have a large bird bath and a small water feature which the birds love for drinking and bathing .....  yesterday, as cold as it was, the robins were having a marvellous time immersing themselves in the water and then shaking themselves dry (ish)  ...  amongst the other birds  we have lots of sparrows about at the moment ..... they, like the robins, look like tennis balls on legs - they are obviously eating well !

TD  I DO hope it warms up for you soon ....   how sad about the  dead birds ..... natures way I suppose  :(

Sorry Unc ...  I appear to have overlooked your news .... Felicitations !

Enjoy all   .... :rain:

You be careful TD down by that river, don't want you falling in.

Hard frost here today, just been watching the scuffling and shoving on the nuts. The robin likes my suet bits, the tits aren't too sure and the sparrows are disgusted.

Trying to motivate myself to go and de-ice the freezer 'cos I haven't done it since, well to be honest I can't remember, may have over done it in that department with the Tesco order.

Tell your wife to plant a Cotoneaster horizontalis

http://tinyurl.com/5er9gx

they take up very little room when trained against a wall, I have one against my fence and at great risk of freezing to death have just checked and it still has berries on. Its not a spectacular flowerer like the pyracanthus, but does turn a beautiful shade in the autumn, its not evergreen but the interlaced stems make a pretty pattern.

Afternoon everyone,

Cold here but no frost thank goodness, had same rain too during the day.  Aww what a shame about the poor birds TD, must be very sad to see (I get upset at the slightest thing with animals... sob).  I see our starlings are scoffing the fat balls, don't get many blue tits here unfortunately, not many of anything really which is a shame.  Oh but lots of pigeons who like to grab what they can which of course stops the smaller birds trying... but I like pigeons so wouldn't stop them even if I could  :)

Hope you all have a good evening, I shall be watching Antiques and Strictly....best thing about a Sunday evening at the moment methinks.

Along with everyone else hard frost here this morning, but still played tennis, had to put salt down on courts to stop us from falling over, but then it is winter.

Dropping cold again this evening, but didn't stop our dog going in lake on her afternoon walk!!
