Visiting The Midland Exchange!
« on: November 27, 2008, 11:20:53 PM »

Hi folks, Im new to this forum so go easy on me as I did not know where to post this question.

Firstly can i say to the Kitz webmaster what a fantastic website you have. The question i would like to know is does anyone know who i should contact via email, phone etc. as i would like to organise a visit to my local exchange (The Midland Exchange in Birmingham)

I noticed Kitz went there i am willing to pay/donate etc. but who do i contact as i am unsure of this???

If anyone has any helpful information i would apppreciate it if they could let me know. Thank you.

Hi "AP" ^-^
Welcome to Kitz's web-site, although I can't help with your question, no-doubt her ladyship will be along at some time (probably soon) to be able to point you in the right direction.

So just hang in there.

Hi and welcome.

Thanks for the comments. :)

As regards the exchange visit, the one with info thats up on the site was arranged by the ex CEO of BT.  I have a bit of a history with adsl going back to 2002 as an ex-adsl campaigner, so he was well aware of me and the site which probably had a lot to do with being given approval, which was for a couple of exchanges and with several 'specialists' in their own field.
I still regret not being able to visit the arranged BT tower visit though, several years ago due to work and other commitments. :/

If you are wanting to go round for interest or as a group, then I way I would approach it is by 'knocking on the door' of your local exchange and asking to speak to the exchange manager.  Depending on the size of your exchange it may have to get approval/clearance by a BT area or regional manager.   There is a lot of very expensive adsl equipment in the exchange.. and they also have to have security clearance for some equipment which doesnt even belong to BT but to the LLU operators (even I wasnt allowed to photograph non BT kit).

If you have a valid reason, or enthusiasm, or if its for an educational group visit, they may well oblige. :)

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Just out of interest i was thinking mayby that you should (Kitz) add abit more background information about yourself on the main website. Feel free to shoot me down on the idea as this is all it is. I just feel we could all learn a little from your experience and past.

I certainly wont shoot you down for asking, its a valid question.  Theres probably bits and pieces of info scattered through the site, but nothing as such all in one place.
I'm actually quite shy when it comes to some things about my private life I guess, therefore dont really blab about it too much, particularly on the main site.
