BTW, instead of relying on the red X to close a tab... you can middle click on it instead (works in several other applications too).

(Discovered another program that does not work properly with IE7)

What's that, out of interest?
Sorry, I suppose I should have mentioned it earlier. "NetLimiter 1.3"

Yes I know it's an old program but it does all I want it to do, apart from giving me my Internet usage stats and allowing me to export (backup) the stats it normally allows me to "Import" the backup stats, which the latest version of NetLimiter will not do.
As I re-ghost my PC quite frequently (weekly, sometimes even daily depending on programs I gave been evaluating) I like to keep the NetLimiter stats accurate and up-to-date.
With IE7 installed the Export facility will not function.
Not too mention this version is much less complicated and more streamlined in it's appearance.

(MusicMatch JukeBox being the other program that does not function at all with XP & IE7, although with Vista it will work, even though Vista reports it a being faulty)

Talking of tabs - does anyone know if FF has a 'break out of tabs option' so that it keeps the orginal tab, but opens a duplicate in a new browser window.. and still keeps the browsing history of back and forward.
This is one feature that I found very handy in IE..  say for eg if youve gone forward to a new page, but would still like to keep the old page open where the back and forward buttons work on both.
The option in IE is Cntrl + N...  but it doesnt work the same in FF and only opens a new 'empty' window.

You can use the 'duplicate tab' option (although I'm not certain whether this is part of the TabMix Plus addon which I use). The option is available in the menu which pops up when right-clicking the tab.

Thanks Eric/Jelv  -  found it eventually.

I don't see duplicate tab option  :(

I couldnt see it either - it had a few options but not what I was looking for..  but I eventually found it and its all hidden in the tabmix plus options.

If anyone else is looking.. its not obvious that it does this and its not shown an an option from the default  tab plus menu.

You have to go into settings to enable it

> Tools
> Tab Mix Plus Options
> Menu
> Tab Context Menu
> Tick the Box 'Duplicate to new window'.

When youve done this it should now work.

BTW talking of firefox add-ons.....

Theres now a new google toolbar for Firefox thats been released, which has one of the things that I most missed from the IE google toolbar and thats the coloured highlighting of search terms.
I did have the Searchbox companion addin installed, but it isnt as good as the google one.  So Im now a happy bunny :)

Having just installed FF3 (which seems to have solved my other problem)

But how do I get more than one tab to open "automatically" when I select either another link or type in a new address?

Thanks.

OF, middle clicking on links ensures they open in a new tab - also check the settings in tools/ options / tabs.

As for new tabs, I find the easiest way is to have the new tab icon on the navigation toolbar - view / toolbars / customise.  (You can also double-click on an enpty part of the tab bar.)

Or did you mean something entirely different?

Something I find useful but many people don't think of is that you can middle click the Home icon to open your home page in a new tab.

How do you 'middle click' with a 2 button wheel mouse?

Is the wheel not clickable? - that's what is usually meant by the middle button.
