Author Topic: Obtaining broadband line error statistics from a Belkin F5D9630 router  (Read 9371 times)

I have just switched from using a BT Voyager 2110 router to a Belkin Wireless G+ MIMO modem router (F5D9630). I would like to check the error statistics on my broadband line but it would seem that I can not do this on the Belkin router.

With the Voyager it was easy. I am concerned as I am about to change ISP (which is why I have had to change the router) and during the switch the line is also to be upgraded. I want to be able to check for any problems following the upgrade. I can see on the Voyager router at the moment that i do have a fairly low level of errors, but want to ensure that this does not worse following the upgrade.

I have seen in an artical on this website details of how to get to hidden pages to view these statics on other Belkin routers, but this does not seem to work on this one. Can anybody offer any advise on how I can obtain these from the router?

Thanks

Hi

Ive just had a look at the router manual to check, but theres nothing in there about it, aside from the basic line stats. Googling has also drawn up a blank Im afraid.

I would have been hopeful that it was similar to the F5D8630, but on further investigation that too would only seem to show the stats from http://192.168.2.1

Thanks for the reply and checking to.

I did contact Belkin to ask them but they said it was not possible. However, I asked the same person if it was possible on two of the other router models which were listed on this web site as having hidden pages to view these stats. She said that it was not possible to view the sats on these models either, in fact none of the Belkin routers - my confidence in her answer to my original question was somewhat dented by the fact that she did not know about the hidden pages herself.

Thanks for you help, I appreciate you checking.

yw..  sorry I couldnt come up with anything new for you.
I was going to suggest belkin support..  and did wonder if they would know :/

I believe there is one more hidden command in some of the belkins, that you may like to try.
However I dont know what it does so be very careful before changing any settings in there if it does work.

I've just found that the stats are available via the SSH log in.  I've only just got my F5D9630 so am yet to work out if I can get it on a hidden web page

Thanks rhenn

Ive only had time to give it a quick scan right now - but based on the thread it would seem a lot of the commands from the 7633 also work on this router and you been able to get the error stats using the command http://192.168.2.1/statsatm.html

Can you confirm that for me please so I can update my site for the MIMO..

I was aware that there was a full list of commands for the belkin, but I suppose it would be useful if I put those up somewhere too.

TIA

Yup that's correct.

http://192.168.2.1/  gives Up/Down speed, Noise Margin, Attenuation, Output Power

The hidden page http://192.168.2.1/statsatm.html gives errors, but only after you've logged in on the standard home page.

You have to use SSH through axessh from labf.com to get the line up time, other ssh progs don't seem to work.  The command is "adsl info --stats" but that has a bug so it never goes over one day ... just like the 7633.

Hi Richard, would you be able to do me a favour?

I ended up taking my Belkin router back because I needed to be able to view the error stats on my line, but having purchased this router I found I couldn't. Likely enough the retailer agreed to give me my money back. I took it back just before you started posting your updates!

If the router does indeed show the errors stats then I will go back and buy it again but before I do I would be interested to know what statistics it does in fact provide. If you have a moment would you be able to take a look at them on your router and then perhaps cut & paste the output in a reply to this posting?

I must say that I have been very disappointed with Belkin's Technical support. I am not sure if other people have experienced the same but it is a bit like talking to the majority of the technical support people you get from BT's off shore Customer Support Call Centres. Prescripted questions that if your problem does not happen to fit in line with you find you are wasting your time, you may as well talk to a brick wall.

Anyway, if you do have the time and could show me the sort of error stats you can get I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks

Vic

Hi Vic,

The error stats are pretty useless... see this thread.

I'm thinking of taking mine back as well, am just thinking of which alternative is the most adaptable.  Will prob go for a linksys or netgear, they seem to have the most hacks available as well as DMT[url] (website is german, but english is an option in the actual software.
