Panama Canal Web cams
« on: November 07, 2008, 12:39:13 PM »

Anyone interested in Ocean-going Ships?

This is the web cam site for the Panama Canal Company:

http://www.pancanal.com/eng/photo/camera-java.html

The Miraflores Locks are where eastbound ships are raised to enter the canal (left to right on the cameras) and travel through the canal to be lowered at the Gatun Locks into the Caribbean and then the Atlantic Ocean.

Click on the High Resolution tab and then the Zoom or magnifying glass, and it opens a full page window of another camera view.

This is an example of a ship transiting from the Pacific to the Atlantic. The bridge on the horizon (whoops! just noticed, it is hidden in the clouds ) is the Centennial Bridge.

Saved quite a few lorry journeys.

Using the links at the very top of the page gives you an interesting insight into the Canal.

* kitz has been through the Panama ship canal.

Dont remember too much about it though as most of it was boring due to someone on the ship getting some infectious disease and the boat was in quarantine for a short while.  :'(
I cant recall what it was (my parents probably will)  but I do remember us all queueing up to take some medicine on sugar cubes.  The last port of call would have been Panama or prior to that Acapulco.  All was considered well by the time we got to Miami/Ft Lauderdale.
