Editing your personal dictionary in Firefox
« on: November 01, 2008, 06:07:27 AM »

This is one thing I thought would be quite straightforward to do, but bizarrely for Firefox it is a bit obscure.  I love having the spellcheck facility and the ability to add words to your personal dictionary.  The first time I realised I'd accidentally put some gobbledegook in there, I was stumped for a while as to how you edit it.

Anyway, I discovered what you have to do is open windows explorer and navigate to the folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\4jotvncu.default

look for the file called persdict.dat and edit it in notepad or wordpad.

I think you'll find that this bit is a random sequence which is different for everyone. You can have several different profiles, each with its own folder having a randomly generated name.

Yeah I realised that might be the case Eric, but with only one account on this PC I've nothing to compare it with... but anyone looking for that info should get the gist of it... think I originally found the info once on the Mozilla help pages.

Why there isn't something on the tools menu to click to do this is totally beyond me.
