Speeds are only 6.6meg though, is this because its always 20% slower?

I was expecting 7meg or so...

At that sync I usually see 6.8 - 6.9meg.

To get 7meg throughput I need to sync at 8128kbps.

If the filter was to blame, check any other filters too, they may also have had their day ;)

No, but you could disconnect the socket if it is being no longer used, the less wiring the less chance of picking up interference:D

According to the max speed calc on this site, you should be able to sync 1000kbps more with ADSL2+

Yes, from behind the faceplate of the unused socket.

Or, if you want, disconnect it from the NTE5 faceplate, this will disconnect altogether.

There's no point in disconnecting the wires at the unused socket, because the wires are still connected at the NTE5 faceplate. The place to disconnect them is at the master socket faceplate. This applies to disconnecting the ring wire as well.

These are only geographical estimators, not accurate indicators of line length.

I have opened the faceplate before and there are no wires in any terminal. I have to open the whole thing to see wires and they all come out of one big white cable.

It's like, when i take off the face plate there are no wires in view whatsoever. However there are more two more screws on the upper half and if i take them off there are several coloured wires all coming out of one big white wire. I can't remember where they connect but there are certainly no terminals. I opened the faceplate and behind that there are terminals but no wires connected to them.

Then it looks as though somebody has wired up your extensions incorrectly. When an NTE5 is fitted, all extensions should be connected to the faceplate, so that they can all be isolated by removing the faceplate for testing in the test socket.

I'm afraid that disconnecting the wires at the extension end won't achieve anything because the wires are still connected at the master socket end, and all you've done is disconnect the extension socket terminals.
