AV2009
« on: October 27, 2008, 07:43:31 PM »

My daughter's PC nearly got infested by this insidious program. If you are not familiar Google has a wealth of warnings and horror stories. I think I managed to guide them away from the main trojan(?) download but I thought it worth pointing out to people how to close the persistent download box (if you are unlucky enough to reach that stage. After warning you that your PC is infested the "download our program" box pops up and "cancel" doesn't work - the box comes straight back. You may be frustrated enough to click "Run" or "Save"  PLEASE DON'T! You can usually close the box with ALT F4 but if need be you can just switch off the PC. What do you think folks? Is there a better way? Is my reaction over the top? Perhaps I'm just paranoid but AV2009 does get a bad press.

Thanks Tony for the warning.

If anyone is having trouble with it, Malwarebytes should remove it.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Click the green download button and save to desktop.
When downloaded, double click to run the installer.
When installed, check for Updates in the Update Tab.
Once updated, with nothing open in your Taskbar, run a Quick Scan first (yes, just the quickscan).
Remove everything it finds and you should be OK.

Just an update to this nasty program.

Just received two emails titled 'Revised activation code for your Antivirus 2009.'

If you get one (or more), bin'em. Don't open them!
