I can certainly recommend the former, and I'll be getting the latter at some stage - being a Yarnfield veteran!

I must admit that I own a copy of each book and hope that the author will write the third, covering his last (approx.) ten years of employment, when based at "Grimbledon Down".

I came across this thread whilst looking for something else... and thought it would be nice to update it.

I've recently found myself the owner of these books, both autographed by the author.
They were picked out by Alans sister thinking I would enjoy them and are currently on my bedside table for light reading.
It was quite pleasant to unexpectedly stumble on these posts.
