Is this just for the Be Box or for all TG585v7 routers?  Any links to the firmware?

I think that may be a Be* profile change on the dslam thats done via the member center, rather than a firmware specific change

Be* will shortly be offering you the ability to change your line profile yourself. This will be achievable via the member-center; Line profile changes will be limited to one in every 24 hours.

This functionality has now been added

I just logged into the member centre and theres a new Profile request change option that Ive not noticed before.

That's interesting.  I wonder if the options do something along the following:

Optimise for speed: Reduce target SNR margin by 3dB

Standard setting: Normal target SNR margin

Optimise for reliability: Increase target SNR margin by 3dB

Gaming mode: Switch to fastpath

Yeah they are ambiguous but it's interesting that an ISP may be providing some sort of functionality (albeit limited) to tweak the connection.

I must admit I've have toyed with the idea of joining BE.  I have been with Zen for a few years now and they have been excellent.  I have considered switching to BE but the only real advantage I can see would be the use of LLU equipment over BT's; I am on a fairly lengthy line (~50dB attenuation with 585v6) and probably wouldn't see any real benefit if I switched to ADSL2+, although I suppose the only real test would be do it.

Ive had clarification that

Quote
Optimise for speed sets target SNR to 3dB - it will increase the speeds and decrease the stability of the line

Standard setting sets target SNR to 6dB - default profile

Optimise for reliability sets target SNR to 9dB - it will increase the stability and decrease the speeds a little

>> but the only real advantage I can see would be the use of LLU equipment over BT's

True for the downstream :/
No IP profile .. and probably more upstream.

Thanks kitz I can actually get out of bed now lol (It put me on my back literally).

I am glad they added that feature. I recommended it about 2 months ago and apparently waz had recommended it before as well.

They just need to get the bugs out of it now(The word "testing" springs to mind  ::)).

Glad youre feeling better James.  :)

- Yes I saw your post requesting the feature a few months back

To be perfectly honest I'm hellishly surprised that the UserGroup didnt make the same suggestions - particularly in view that it was them that announced the new tool.  Being a Usergroup member (from another ISP) I would have thought that this was exactly the type of thing that they were supposed to do?

From what I have seen(but might not be the case) Be* don't seem to release as much information to the usergroup as the likes of Plus Net ect.. seem to do to there's. The usergroup is very supportive if you suggest something but I still know what you mean.

EDIT: For example I was on the IRC channel the other night while the forums were down for maintainance and I asked one of the usergroup if they had any updates or news about if and when it was going to be added and the said person said they did not know accept it was being worked on. Then about 3 hours later the forums and portal came back on and its was on the portal. That just shows that Be* does not inform/brief them.

EDIT2: Just recommended something else and this was a reply from a usergroup member:

Quote
The status pages need a _lot_ of work.. most of they time they seem to either show way out of date outages from months ago which should have been archived.. for some reason yesterday it was even showing those in the current outages section!! ie.. giving people the impression their exchange had been broken since MAY!.

Oh well... maybe one day :)

Added to the usergroup list of grumbles :D

So they obviously arn't to happy at the current state of affairs.

Oh and sorry once again. I always seem to take threads off topic. Oh well your to blame aswell  :police:

lol...  and thats why I was actually splitting the topic from the original as you were making your post.
... only I ballsed it up and split from the wrong post and had to re-merge them and split again.
