funny networks
« on: September 20, 2008, 10:07:24 PM »

Can anyone explain why a network can work for weeks with no trouble then all of a sudden it starts playing up for no reason, mine now tells me that my network settings dont match, what ever that means,so I reset the router and everything goes back to normal,is it only me or does everyone have to put up with this..When you buy these routers the sellers always tell us how easy they are to set up and run,but judging by the huge amount of people, myself included, who have to rely on the wonderful folk on this forum who try and help us with are problems I think there is a lot more to it that the makers say, this forum alone has lots of people looking for help with networks.I always like to try and fix problems myself as computers are my hobby, but I do often have to ask for help when I get stuck,Thanks anyway for all the help you give..bully4me

Hi and welcome to the forums :)

me thinks its all part of the joys of networking and one of those things sent to try us.
I'm sure all of us at some time or other have had settings that no longer work and we wonder just what went wrong.  :D

Seriously though if its happening frequently, all isnt right..  if it clears then it could be something to do with DHCP which is controlled by your router.  Resetting the router could cause the IP addresses to be refreshed.
... but then again it could be several other things :(

It is worth checking if your router has the latest version firmware.  Like all software, firmware can be buggy and later versions often fix problems like the one you describe.
