There are many reasons, but one in particular is if you wanted to convert the DVD into a say .avi file (or different format), this can take hours.
So it not only ensures a nice smooth transfer when being converted but also saves your DVD drive from excess wear and tear.
The following instructions will show you how to get a DVD movie onto your HDD
It will also remove of any protection and make it "Region Free" in same the process.
1. Open DVD Shrink, Then, click "
Edit"
2. Next click "
Preferences"
Select "DVD-5 (4.7GB)" from the drop-down menu and then
click "
OK"
3. Next, click "
Open Disc"
Point to your DVD drive.
DVD Shrink will then analyse the disc.
4. When completed, you'll get presented with the following screen:
5. In the left-hand pane, highlight the root of the "DVD Structure like so:
At this point, you can also choose to remove various Audio tracks and/or
Subtitles from the disc. Simply un-checked the stuff you don't want to keep.
When you've got things set to your liking, click the "
Backup!" button found on the toolbar.
6. You'll now be presented with a new window.
Simply set things found in the various tabs as shown below:
7. Target Device:
Select, "Hard Disk Folder" then "Browse" to where you want to save the backup DVD.

11. Once you've got everything set, click "
OK" to start transferring.
12. DVD Shrink will now copy the new DVD onto your HDD.
13. When it's finished, you'll see the following message.
14. Click "
OK" to finish.
