How to Use Nero 6 to join and burn two or more movie files
« on: September 19, 2008, 06:44:21 PM »

Using Nero 6 to join and burn two or more movie files "avi, mpeg, DivX, Xvid" (any movie file) into one movie.

Some parts listed below are just my own personal choices as I want chapters,
but without a menu or having to create chapters manually.

If you want a menu, then at step 9, just select the menu option and create your own menu.
Nero's default will also create chapters every two minutes, which is not as bad as it may sound.

If you do not want to join your series of movies together creating one long movie,
"then simply skip steps 4 & 5" You can then create a menu for the individual clips.

From Nero StartSmart
1. Select "DVD", followed by "Make Your Own DVD-Video"

2. Select "Add Video Files"

3. Select the files you want to merge and burn then press "Open"

4. The files are now in view and highlighted, (if not highlighted press and hold Ctrl then select the movie files)
... (Make sure the files are listed top-to-bottom in the order you want them)

5. Select the MIDDLE icon on the bottom left hand side of the screen, (picture above) a message will say "Merge Titles" when you hover the mouse over it, now press it,
A warning message will follow saying, "Merging titles means that a new title is created from the contents of the selected ones, which are then removed from the document. Do you want to continue?" Yes/No.
Select YES (your original files will still be intact when finished, it does not delete or remove them).

6. You will now see only one title with the original file name, except the time of the movie is now for all parts.
... Click the title if you want to change it.

7. From the picture above (my personal choice) is to select "More>>" and place a tick in "Create chapters automatically" (this will create chapters every 2 minutes).

8. Also at this point you can also select which format you want your movie in "PAL/NTSC" by selecting "Video Options".
Then press "Next"

9. Now at the top right hand corner next to (Menus to Use) select "Titles and chapter menus" and select "Do not create a menu"
Then press "Next"

You will now see a preview of your movie.
After the preview press "Next"

10. You can now select where to save or burn the DVD vobs files. "Write to Hard Disk Folder" and select where to save it to.
(again a personal choice) I prefer to save to the HDD then burn later.
Then press "Write".

Now sit back and wait 2, 3, 4, 5 hours, depending on your PC and the size of the movie.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
May I suggest a Tutorial Thread/Folder.

I'm not saying I will fill it  :-X, but it might make it easier for people looking down the Index / menu.
Because it's one of those that can cover many topics and not just software.

Excellent posts OF - Thanks.

I can do a Folder for How Tos - like how there is in the Vista section.  I'm still not convinced if that works or not, but since you have been good enough to do some tutorials, I dont mind starting a sub-section for them if you would like.

Just thought it might make it easier for people to find things like this.

"Especially, as I can't remember where I put things to begin with.

That's excellent. Together with your other tutorial on AutoGK I may yet find a way to "easily" combine 3 camcorder minidiscs into one full sized DVD. You never know I might even write a tutorial!

There are a lot of programs out there that will do "The Job We Want"
No matter if they are freebies or paid for programs, they can and will do it.
I use Nero a lot because I'm happy with it "and I've gotten used to it"

However,
Where the problem's start is when we decide we want to "Snip this bit out, Add extra audio, Re-sync the audio, Brighten or darken the colour" etc etc etc.

The problem is that so-far we have not yet mastered the basics.

My advice is to get hold of some short movie clips and PLAY
By using short clips it means you don't have to wait too long before you get to see the results of what you just tried.

By only trying on proper movies of what you actually want to keep and achieve will leave you frustrated when it does not work.
"This is when things now start to get complicated" why, because we then read the instruction,
enough said about those.

Perfection or Success  comes at a price, and that price is "Practise"
Most of what I have learnt is by the "What happens if I do this" method, sometimes it's  :-X and a lot of the times it's

KISS=

Keep
It
Simple
Silly

And don't forget to make a backup (copy) before you start.  :comp:
