Tiscali and Cap/FUP etc
« on: October 22, 2008, 05:26:45 PM »

Hi Kitz,

I have been looking at the page with regard to "unlimited" ISPs.

Now I see that large downloads are Throtlled all of the time on Tiscali, however I have noticed that I can download a 748mb file at 764KB/s until around 6pm then it goes to around 300KB/s! Therefore they only Throttle Large downloads at Peak Times.

It also will affect Speedtests.

HTTP and FTP I can't really notice many slowdowns. And as the update on the forums says, there is no congestion issues on Datastream and LLU with Tiscali.

Regards

Jamie

I don't download large files in the evening anyways as Tiscali FUP is one thing I don't want to be under!  :-\

I've noticed that Tiscali can get a bit sluggish in the evenings... if I want to download large files via torrent or wherever, I do it in the daytime, or let it run overnight.

Yes, an example was downloading Visual Basic ISO file, it was going much faster at 4pm than at say 8pm.

Maybe their traffic management or just congestion

Could be either - large downloads absolutely fly in the mornings. :)

I'd agree there. Are you on LLU?

As most recently speeds seem more normal in the evenings for me on LLU

I am at 834kb/s at the moment. It seems all OK this week, last week it was like 200kb/s though

I'm pretty sure I'm on LLU.

I'm pretty sure I'm on LLU.

Reason I was asking is that LLU has no congestion compared to DataStream or IP Stream.

If you read through the Tiscali Forums, you will see the issues with IP Stream and Tiscali's lack of bandwidth!
