Connection difficulty
« on: December 12, 2008, 10:27:45 PM »

Desktop with XP SP2 & laptop wth Vista. Sky wireless router, Nvidia 802.11G WiFi (bundled) in desktop. For last 5/6 days with the desktop I can connect to internet for about 5 mins but after that browser "times out" before connecting. The laptop connects ok wirelessly. I have tried a new ethernet cable and installed a new card but results are still as above. Can anyone help please? :(

Hi and welcome

I'm not quite clear whether the desktop is connecting via ethernet or wireless. Assuming that it's ethernet, then it looks as though the ethernet interface is dropping out after a few minutes. I'm not a Windows user, but hopefully someone who is will be along shortly.

Its not clear where the connection is dropping out.

Just a thought.
Make sure that you have IE set to 'never dial a connection'

IE >
Tools >
Internet Options >
Connections >
'Never dial a connection'

If its the wireless thats dropping out - try using a different wireless channel.

Does the router still remain sync?
