Argg Part 2 - Speedtesting
« on: January 11, 2026, 03:10:44 PM »

Forget to metioned. All testing are done via TP Link VX230v wifi 6 router. Do you think it worth to change to new TP Link Archer BE230 (BE3600) as I haven't setup this WiFi 7 fibre router yet.

I think it pointless to do it because all devices are all WiFi 6, none of them all on WiFi 7 yet. Might keep the wifi 7 in the spare cupboard for now for future.

TP Link VX230v WiFi 6 reported download speed of 818Mbps and 111Mbps up from Samsung A54 5G mobile using wifi 6 in the same room.

Why have you bought yet another router when your current VX230v should be fine on your new connection? I'd have seen how well what I'd already got worked before buying anything else.

You are 100% right VX230v are working fine with FTTP.

If it was me, I'd probably give it a go. Just don't expect any big changes from it  :)

I'd definitely be curious as I'd think the newer model would have a faster CPU.  Also when I upgraded my AP to WiFi 6, it improved the performance even on WiFi 5 clients.

If you do not have anything WiFi 7, you will not benefit from MLO (Multi-Link Operation) which uses all radios at the same time for increased throughput.
Saying that, your vx230v is AX1800, and the BE230 is BE3600.
So:
at 5 GHz, your vx230v maxes out at 1201 Mbps and the BE230 maxes out at 2882 Mbps
at 2.4 GHz, your vx230v maxes out at 574 Mbps, and the BE230 maxes out at 688 Mbps.

The BE230 has a 2.5 Gbps WAN port which matches your 2.5 Gbps ONT, which may allow you to get closer to the 1000/115 service you are paying for.
Your 1 Gbps WAN on your vx230v may be hardware throttling the full throughput of the connection, which you would only be able to tell by using the 2.5 Gbps LAN port connected to a device that supports 2.5 Gbps or greater.

You will not notice this difference over Wifi though as your A54 is only WiFi 6.

 make me boiled heated exchange with next door unhappy with fibre cable.

 Next door has complaint about overhead cable to my house as they want to removed it off. I told them to get in touch with Openreach, not my problem as the cable overhead wasn't in their garden. Only in my garden. They moaned about FTTP pole and cable!

If I swap over to TP Link Archer BE230 (BE3600) - do I need to switch off ONT power first or just unplugged from vx230v wan port ethernet 1Gbps and plugged into BE230 (BE3600) wan port ethernet 2.5Gbps?

You can just change it - pull the cable and plug new one in.

I have done it. Thanks. Now using new TP Link Archer BE230 (BE3600)  :) Linux say connected to 2500Mbps link speed on my pc from TP Link fiber router.

Any chance of a new wired thinkbroadband speedtest please, 2.5 Gbps should get round the 1 Gbps bottlenexk of the vx230v hardware and get you almost full 1000/115 sync speeds.

I will do it later cos my daughter is on her xbox gaming. I rather to test it when no other devices is running. Only my PC ethernet 2.5Gbps will test on thinkbroadband later.

Don't think it won't get full 1000/115 throughput speed because Aquiss product did say up to 900/115

Look like the new TP Link Wifi 7 are lots worse bottleneck than my old TP Link Wifi 6 using ethernet 5e on Windows 2.5Gb link speed (Don't know if it was down to TTB speedtest server) below:
