He thought he was entitled to write what he liked. I had no problem with most of the content, some of the posts were interesting regarding some highly technical aspects of adsl. He had a slight problem with some sort of interference which caused minute changes in SNR. The problem was that he expected DSL stats to provide the type of diagnostics comparative to highly sophisticated tools which are not available ot the common person... or even your standard telco engineer. iirc he had a thing about one or more of the bins which I can remember saying from the start that it looked similar to how BE* Broadband took out of bitload service as they thought that the particular channel was prone to EMI. He hounded anyone and everyone for more information about those channels. I dont recall everything that happened as there was a lot, however I do recall that it turned out the channel was indeed taken out of service by his ISP, but he just kept digging and diggin for more info about what I think is basically the bandplans that we as a consumer have no control over. K5 was on a mission to get his isp to make those channels available despite them at first denying that their bandplan blacklisted that channel(s). So he was after real high end specific information into far more depth than even REIN engineers would know. BS would confirm that.
Anyhow K5 kept coming back here because ~10/15 years ago there was nowhere else that talked about hlogs and bit load. I'm being honest in saying info I supplied on the site was not available elsewhere about line diagnostics. I believe I was one of the very first to be able to diagnose EMI and REIN from bit loading. This was even long before we had DSLstats, with hlog and QLN info. Back on track, he came here because he was able to get info level higher than any other site, Having an AS disorder caused him to become fixated on the topic to what was a high academic level on a specialised topic. I didn’t mind him making his posts when he found knew info. What wasnt acceptable was demanding an answer or immediate response to his questions. Alan put an awful lot of time chatting with him about the electronic side of things and would share an interest and discuss in any new info he found. Some of the docs were specialised subject white papers & journals and could take time to digest properly, it was extremely unfair to expect BCat to investigate and reply lengthy topics ina short time span. It was unacceptable to keep calling out a member thinking they had nothing else to do other than reply to him. He was on a final warning for bothering Bcat, but iirc the actual final straw was him posting a link to download an expensive book about broadband technology . From this I'd ended up with a google blackmark and some sort of delisted notification.
At first I wasnt sure what it was that I received or why... it wasnt an actual DMCA breach or a copyright notification of the sort whereby your web host would be notified. After investigation, it was part of new measures organisations where trying in an attempt to deter file sharing. For eg companies who have software apps or publishers on behalf of authors. They employ a specialised agency to look for download links to their copyright material. The agency sends a report to google of any websites that hosts downloadable content. Google then blacklists the site and removes the culprit site from appearing on any search results. Finding out what had happened and researching how to make a counterclaim was time consuming. I removed the link K5 had posted and told him what had happened and how this site does not host nor post links to download sites, then b***er me, he reposted the damn link again. I was not happy. Like I say he seemed to think he had the right to post what he liked where he liked, free speech and all that. :/
