Arrrggggg
« on: December 29, 2025, 12:56:50 PM »

This morning I went to town centre getting shopping foods and brought TP Link Archer BE230 Fibre Router £69.99 then went back in the car, driving home as my phone was keep ringing but I can't answer it. Until I get home, Openreach has called me and texted me saying Hi I'm openreach engineer and I need access to your back garden to provide the external cable will you be in today? As I must have missed it, never expecting any FTTP install today, so I reply Yes. Then it reply back say I've now moved on to my next task your CP will be in touch to arrange a suitable time to revisit.

I look up my CCTV as the engineer been turn up and the Openreach van still there for approx 20 minutes then it went off before I get home. Damn it! Look like I would have FTTP today instead of January 5th 2026 (as this date is set by my ISP commited date 05/01/26 AM slot 8am to 1pm)

Unlucky today as I do hate last minute phone call or text unexpectedly today from Openreach engineer.  :o

You wouldn't have had it installed today.

This is just pre-install work to get the fibre to the actual property.

Openreach just turn up to do the 1st part of the job, it's a bit annoying as that isn't clear to end users. (I found the same when I ordered FTTP - OR turned up the next day to do the outside work.)

Yeah I agree with you. Rather annoying as it should have let me know in 24 hours in advance, then I would stay at home for the engineer. My ISP is going to raise this matter with Openreach and will get back to me ASAP. The ISP also not sure why it turn up today.

Why have you bought yet another router when your current VX230v should be fine on your new connection? I'd have seen how well what I'd already got worked before buying anything else.

Updated: Openreach has texted me

Hi, it's the Openreach support team.
We couldn't access the area around your property to complete a pre-visit check. To get you connected, you'll need to give our engineer access.
We have engineers available on weekdays between 01 Jan and 09 Jan. Please reply with your preferred date/time (e.g. 6 May AM)

I text reply 1 Jan AM

Openreach reply by text me: Thanks we will confirm your engineer visit date and time shortly

So I can use VX230v as the wifi access point for downstair TV while my new fibre router in upstair to my pc, cctv, bedroom tv, and printer connect ethernet from the router to the ONT main one.

Unless your house is quite large I'd have thought that the TV would connect ok to the router upstairs, and as discussed in another thread TVs don't need fast connection speeds.

i Would have waited until the date was confirmed before cancelling your g.fast.   Especially with Jan 1 being a bank holiday.

I'd have waited until FTTP was all up and running first - mate of mine down the street ended up having to wait weeks and weeks to have it installed due to issues getting fibre to the house.

Don't worry if this happen, G.fast cease can be void at anytime at least 48 hours notice by 28th January if FTTP haven't done by this date.
