Android/Gmail problem
« on: December 23, 2025, 05:13:57 PM »

Hi,

My Android tablet has three email accounts. One is Google Apps or whatever it's currently called, this is my main email account, with my domain.  The other two are plain @gmail.com Google accounts.

The first one has stopped syncing yesterday and nothing seems to help. If syncs OK to my IPhone, and I can read mail on a web pagecon the tablet, but for this account only, the Android Gmail app hasn't synced since yesterday. The other two accounts are working normally.

I've tried all the things I can think of, switching sync off and back on, forcing Gmail app to stop then restarting it, even removing the account from the device and re-adding it.

Any ideas?

Seems like this is an insoluble issue, a search shows discussion going back over nine years with no clear resolution. Since my first post I've added another email account to the device, also from our Google Apps domain, and that works fine as well.

Thats rather annoying when they are aware of the issue, but have done naff all about if.  Hazarding a guess that its a very tiny minority for them not to have done anything.

It's strange and clearly it's the account and not tge device. I checked my old tablet and it still has that account configured and with the same fault.

I have either fixed or worked around the issue by enabling two factor authentication on that specific account. The other accounts, that all work OK don't have it enabled so it's hard to see a direct functional link.

It might just be that the change forced a complete reset of the connection for that account. You'd think removing and re-adding the account would have done that anyway but given the way Android relies on having a Google account, I wonder whether it did in fact really remove it.  And it's started working on the old tablet as well without any removing/re-adding or software updates or any action at all.

Given my reliance on Google for email and for file storage, and the greater chance of being locked out now I've enabled 2fa, I'm feeling the need for a backup with a different provider. I can store my Google recovery information there, and my "other" information on Google.
