Cannot reactivate ceased line
« on: December 09, 2025, 11:59:10 PM »

Hi all,

Today one of my PAs decided to phone up BT and cancel my Mum's account since she recently passed away. I said to my PA that I need to keep the line active for my ISP which was uno broadband. Anyway, the guy she spoke to at BT said the internet would still work but without voice calls, five minutes later no internet.

My PA insisted she doesn't have a phone line at home but she has an EE router plugged into the phone socket.

BT said they can't reactivate the line because the copper has been cut. There is SoGEA available at the cabinet I was connected to, but how do I order without no telephone number?

Thanks for any help or advice,

Steve

As a first step I would call your broadband supplier, UNO, and report your broadband is down and see if they can sort it out with BT.

There's no way to reactivate FTTC if the PSTN has been cut.
Uno offer SOGEA
https://www.uno.uk/packages/sogea-broadband/

Are you in contract with Uno?

Thanks for the replies. Uno said they were unable to do anything and immediately handed me a £70 bill for ceasing the line which wasn't my fault. My PA had a go at them for being unhelpful which made me cringe, as when I chat to them through their portal I'm always polite.

When I tried to open a new account with BT, it says they are unable to complete the order. Uno requires a landline number to be able to place an order which I don't have at the moment.

Thanks for the help so far,

Steve

Sure, here's the result from A&A...

"Your line length (from the exchange) is approximately 1 meters.
"Superfast" VDSL (Fibre to the cabinet)

VDSL Internet with estimated download speed up to 47Mb/s→76Mb/s and upload up to 9.7Mb/s→17Mb/s, from £45/month for 1TB quota."

I've managed to open a new account with BT with their Fibre 1 package for now, BT are apparently upgrading my town to FTTP which should be available at the end of March 2026. So I'm hoping to order that when it comes. :fingers:

Thanks for your help,

Steve
