I just saw your sig and what the hell is this speed coming from you? Are you the fastest FTTP in the world?

I don't think so. In the UK definitely. In the world only folks with test networks to their homes are faster so you could probably count the people with faster than me to their homes on two hands.

Don't be so ridiculously over dramatic! What a drama merchant you are! People are fully entitled to dislike poles spoiling their environment or views.

Indeed they are. However they also have to accept the consequences that come with exercising that entitlement. If you'd care to check the OP's posting history you'd note that he very, very, very much wants FTTP. Fixated on it. Was absolutely fine with it being delivered over poles a couple of weeks ago. Assuming they are taking them all down OP might find a somewhat cooler experience next time they've issues with their copper.

Of course I do want FTTP. But, it have to be right under the ground. The last few days ago I fully accepted let's the poles go ahead but it now it appear all work has been cancelled and all the neighbours has objects - so maybe Telford & Wrekin Council has paused it and enquires with Openreach - why so many poles far too many!

If Openreach decided to take the poles off and say to Woodside - fine you can stick with old copper slower FTTC but lucky me I got the G.fast (no issues at all and happy to be on it but the problem is with G.fast is so expensive than FTTP in monthly fee.

What happens when all the G.Fast equipment goes dead though? You'll be stuck. Less and less providers are offering G.Fast. It was a limited product in the first place, you may find yourself stuck with FTTC again at some point and you've all collectively cut off your noses to spite your face because of a few poles. Like I said, where I grew up - poles are common, bringing power and telecoms to most of the houses in the town - I've no problem with them, I'd rather be pole fed than have the streets dug up. But there we are.

Madness! @adslmax, your area has been offered the most open FTTP network available and have turned it down because they don't want a few poles in the streets. As already said, because you have Virgin Media available there will be no government money available for this so don't be at all surprised if Openreach walk away and leave you with G.Fast which is expensive and will likely become unsupportable before too long.

I have emailed Openreach to see if the area still go ahead with FTTP via poles or not. Please do not blame me, all the residents are against it too, not just me. Could be 1000 residents against OR rather than me against OR.

I doubt most folks care, it'll be a few individuals that will have spoiled it for everyone else. Looking forward to those same individuals complain about the roadworks soon.

I walk down by Wellsfield it all now fibre optic cable in all poles and fed at the bottom of Mound Way Woodside. Spoken to some engineers still working on one pole cable. He told me Openreach and Telford Council was approved all Woodside will have FTTP. Waverley and Wellsfield expected go LIVE within next 3 weeks. He told me the reason on other side of Woodside poles was cancelled will change of schedule but still go ahead. Was told Williowsfield go LIVE in February instead of April.

I can't take photo of the engineer work on pole cable as I respect him to do the work.

So like I said, the works have been rearranged, not cancelled because of any supposed pressure from the residents. Seriously, just leave them to get on with what needs to be done and enjoy having FTTP when you can order it.

which is crazy when you look at the places that have no alternatives like the Grand Central in Birmingham which has no FTTP available, and is copper for all properties, ADSL only, and is in a copper stop sell and restricted exchange...

5G is not really an alternative to fixed broadband, frankly.

Yeah the approval from Ofcom has no pity for those in copper only areas.
