My connection is fed via pole and dropwire/fibre, no problems. Not long for you to wait now

Good to hear it.  Got question to ask.  If the pole was in front of anywhere does this mean the drop wire cable have to be at the front of the house or can it go all the way to the back of the house by the wall?

I think the pole will go at the back of the house where there is nearby lamppost.

Access permitting they should route it along the outside wall within reason.

Not surprised here: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2025/11/openreach-faces-protest-in-lincoln-over-rollout-of-40-broadband-poles.html

I'm sure there'll also be complaints when the rollout is delayed or Openreach just walk away and deploy somewhere else that values the advantage of having FTTC over a few new poles.

For openness, I live in a village that has a mixture of overhead and underground infrastructure for both power and telecoms. My road is all underground and I was surprised when Wessex Internet, who are in the process of deploying, chose to put in ducts rather than poles. They will be using existing poles where available in other parts of the village. I assume this is because they are being funded by Project Gigabit, but I would have thought a government funded scheme would want the cheapest and easiest route but clearly not. This also means that when it comes to installation they are going to have to dig in every front garden where they have used ducting which just seems crazy to me.

Splendid. 5 each are going into Wigmores and Woodcroft this week alongside the 12 in Westbourne and 2 in Wyvern starting tomorrow. Loads more to come. Glad you're used to the idea.

Yeah they going to install lot of new poles all over Woodside but I reckon the FTTP won't be ready until April 2026. Long way off yet.

It can be quite quick once the poles are in. The half of the road where I live, that had some replacement poles put in, was ready within a month. They had to dig at the base of the poles, I guess maybe to reach a duct. Also trenched across the road to one of the cul de sacs. That half can all order FTTP. The half I'm on that is ducted in the pavement, hasn't had any visible work being done since the end of September. Not sure what's going on now, checker just says building in the area.

My fathers house is pole fed. I remember seeing the CBT's going on the pole in August and it was January by the time he had it, and I ordered it for him as soon as he could have it.

@adslmax

take a trip to Littlehampton.

Over 40 years ago, Openreach installed all cables underground.
They should have been one of the first places for FTTP, if all the underground chambers had not collapsed

Every time Openreach go to add further FTTP there the funding is used up almost immediately in repairing the underground chambers.

Yep, underground is really inefficient, I see a lot round here, 6 hours digging, 30 mins works, 3 hours reverse digging to put everything back how it was.  So an entire day for a 30 min repair.  Noisy as hell, a pole instead? Yes please.

Not just collapsed ducts either, but all the accidents from diggers cutting the cables.

Never seen a pole blown down before, for most of the country it will be a non issue.

Look like I got no other choice now.

My option will be:

1) Stay on G.fast (underground cable)
2) Wait until VM rolled out FTTP Cable (hopefully underground cable)
3) Try FTTP overhead by the pole and see if it more reliable ever

Overhead install is much better, no digging up of front garden, no risk of damaging it with trimmer, or tripping over loose part of cable (my virgin media cable is loose all round front of property, its dangerous).    Less complicated installs, less likely to be deemed not economical viable to install.

It was already proven a decade ago overhead fibre is reliable, no issues.  Also mine is overhead, no local loop issues.

It's has been cancelled now. Woodside Residents objects it. All poles are going to take it down in all over Woodside.

Openreach FTTP not go ahead now. Seem my victory are working out well.

We all stay at FTTC / G.fast.

In in a relatively few years none of that equipment will be repairable and you'll all be forced onto mobile towers for a vastly inferior service.  Well done!

Well done indeed. Perhaps Max can stop pestering about FTTP as he’s pleased he’s won. Small minds with little understanding
