Before we got FTTC I used to load balance 2 ADSL connections with an pfSense router as we struggled with only 8 mb connection, at one stage I had Zen and PlusNet. PlusNet was good, fast connection and uptime but the moment I had an issue it was impossible to get support, ages waiting on the phone .. terrible, unlike Zen who are excellent support-wise in my experience.

I love the idea of a mega-fast connection but with 4 adults we manage fine with one 80/20 connection, no complaints.  Especially with Zen's 'Price for Life' promise (now not available for new customers but still valid for old customers) its very hard to justify changing.

Somewhat philosophically I have to comment that up until now we’ve been keeping with speeds that are adequate for the state of the internet at the time.

FTTP speeds of 300+ are mind bogglingly quick compared to 40-80Mbps on FTTC, let alone those with multi gig (I myself being one of them). In reality 300Mbps would do me, I can wait for downloads. But the nerd in me wants stuff done quickly and because it’s my job I’ll happily dabble with top packages because….. I can. However, I must be 0.1% use case measured against the general public

Latest offer from Cityfibre was 5 Gigabit symmetric for £80

Do I need that?

I definitely don't need 3.6Gbps between two different providers, but I can, so ... I do.

I think its your choice to make Max, some people are fascinated by networks, and I think you are one of those people.
But I will say dont do it if it causes you financial issues, in that respect I mirror Kitz's concern.

I think we all feel the same on that final point! 😟😟
See mine as a necessity, but I still think it should be the most affordable to me. Don't have Sky or Netflix, as I see them as luxuries that I can't afford.

Question for Max. How did you get Plusnet to order you a new line without affecting the other lines. I ordered a new line on 21st Aug for Full Fibre at my house and to keep the Talk Talk Business VDSL/Phone running. 23rd August TTB system sends a ticket for Leaving and Retention which I assumed was a cease on my current line. I asked TTB to cancel the cease but someone on the PN forum said this might cancel my PN order. Not only that the order was wrong name wrong mobile any advice?

Yeah, hopefully Max understands.

In the past I myself a internet geek have had to make tough decisions.  I think on an Occasion I had cable and VDSL at same time, I wanted to keep both but wasnt flush with cash at the time, so cancelled one of the services.

Cerberus FTTP 900 / 200 with most expensive activation fee and monthly fee!  ::) if FTTP come along - I wouldn't pay £212 a month!  :P

Yet https://forums.thinkbroadband.com/fibre/t/4780780-re-city-fibre-5gb.html

It’s true though

I absolutely don’t need two top tier services, yet I have them because I like it.

I was linking to that one post specifically for obvious reasons that it seems an odd thing to ask given this thread.
