waiting since 2018 for FTTP - any suggestions?
« on: August 13, 2025, 11:42:49 PM »

We've been waiting since 2018 for Openreach to enable FTTP.

The Openreach checker still says "We have no plans to build Full Fibre to this property yet" for our location in Cornwall.

We have tried, over those 7 years, writing letters, emails, filling in forms to express interest etc etc but still nothing.

Seven long years of waiting.

I realise the options for getting something done against a monopoly like Openreach are limited - but I thought I'd ask in case someone had any suggestions.
  • maybe getting an MP to move OpenReach
  • maybe appeal to OfCom using some regulation that says 7 years is too long to wait

There is Wildanet here but they have a reputation for poor reliability and extremely poor customer service - basically they are massively prioritising sales and not quality of service. I need a reliable service and good customer support - and Openreach means I can continue to use my ISP which has treated me well for many years.

Not good news!
Project Gigabit network build contract – Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
BDUK has awarded broadband provider Wildanet a Project Gigabit contract to provide around 16,800 premises across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly with access to gigabit-capable broadband.

So until Openreach fill their gaps, looks like you're stuck with them.
Another thought is WIFI or 5G or Starlink! Depending on what you can afford.
