Can't you put the Orbi mesh system as a Wi-Fi Access Point behind the DGA router as personally I'd not be very concerned about the Orbi being out of support if the router in front of it was still in?

That's how I am running it at the moment and TBH I was wondering how much of a security risk I was running by continuing to run the Orbi in access point mode.

I am probably at least as concerned about the DGA0122.  I can find little or no information about the Technicolor DGA0122 firmware latest versions.  The Vantiva (as Thomson are now known) web site is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.  Googling tells me that BRSK are running a later version of the Damson firmware than AAISP was, but no idea where to source it from and the router doesn't appear to be able to check firmware versions itself even in engineer mode.

If it's a v1 RBR50 and RBS50 you can run Openwrt:
https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=commit;h=2cb24b3f3cd89692f3c0bd137f3f560ada359bfa

The original Netgear firmware is based on a Openwrt forked Qualcomm Software Development Kit.

If it's a v1 Orbi, you can run both in WDS wireless network:
https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/wifi/wifiextenders/wds

Alternatively, I can find you some decent alternatives on Amazon:

Hi Meritez,

It is a V1 Orbi, however I don't think my technical skills are up to installing Openwrt.

The Cudy mesh router is very attractively priced.  However, I need at least 3 1GB Ethernet ports on the main router, if i am to take the DGA0122 out of the solution.  I'm very tempted to buy from Amazon due to the ease of returning kit if it doesn't work as planned.  There are other Cudy models that have more ports, but not stocked by Amazon as far as I can see.

Thinking that the TP-Link XE75 or the Asus ZenPro XT8 might be possible options based on reviews that I have seen so far, but more than happy to consider other suggestions from you.
