Strange issue with my FTTP with Vodafone
« on: April 08, 2025, 11:55:46 AM »

I have been having issues recently not sure when it started but certainly a few weeks ago. The issue is connecting to websites initially, places I visit often can show an apparent delay in contacting the site (including here and many many more). I have a 500Mbps connection on Vodafone which on speed tests shows I am getting the download speeds I expect, however it is not download which is the issue it is the initial connection. I suspected I had a DNS issue so changed my DNS servers (don't use the Vodafone ones) after speed tests using DNSBench but to no avail I still see the delay. One slightly strange thing is that this does not always happen on every access sometimes it is almost instantaneous, also sometimes when working on say a forum I can create a thread and hit submit and it will give a delay again whether or not I had the delay initially and other times it is almost instantaneous!

So anyone any ideas as to why this might be happening?

What browser are you using? I have a problem with FF recently, sometimes it will just hang, other times will just not connect (probably related).
Closing and restarting fixes it instantly!

Don't get me started about Edge ;) :D

I do normally use Firefox and all my systems are Linux. However it also shows up using Thunderbird when fetching mail, I have 5 accounts all on the same domain and sometimes there is a noticeable delay before it contacts the server initially!
