Let Battle commence!
« on: March 13, 2025, 10:26:45 AM »

Hi All,
So after a little hiatus, I have reorder my Youfibre fibre. If you remember we had a difference of opinion over the routing of the fibre, YF wish to use the poles and I'm ground supplied. Well my Lease Landlord has finally come back to me and he is of the same opinion of doing the ground route.
So! On the 14th April (first Monday the had available! Before you ask!) I will have a visit and ask that it is to be ground installed due to my LLL. Hopefully we can then escalate and do the ground install from the junction corner. Quinn were actually in it the other week, due to a pole running out of capacity in another street!  Good sign or what!
So wish me luck! ;)

My expectation is not! However this time I'll escalate rather than cancel and hopefully get Netomnia/Quinn to install to our pit!
This seems to be the stumbling block for the install, on all the fiber. Even open reach only put a 6 in there. Even though there are 12 flats!?
But yes hopefully, some positive movement.
Thanks.

Oh Well!
Pre visit has resulted in another pole pipe stand off! ("Sound of Spaghetti Western Music in the air!")
Hopefully the Engineers parting comments will result in another visit and a node in the our pit. As I've ask for escalation this time.
Daft thing is they were there last week in the main distribution pit fibering up a second pole node across the other side of Smithfield! Due to demand!
So we will have to see if I hear anything before the 14th!
Wish me luck!
Dwight

PS Had an email from Youfibre, confirming my desire for the pole instalation. If I didn't respond in 7 days it would be canceled.
So I did, asking for a ground install and how do I escallate to get that completed!
We wait for their response.

Well it's Over!
The only possible route acording to You fibre is overhead! :'( :'(
So, no Youfibre for me! Or any other flats in The Chimes.
As like myself the landlord thinks the routing should be via the pit and underground.

This really does concern me, as how many people are being by passed in the new fibre builds? :(
When Virgin did the street they only allocated two points to our flats. There's twelve, and both were street side.
Openreach have fitted to the pit but only a six node and allocated it to the two front blocks. Flats 1 to 6. 7 to 12 are still in the planning acording to thinkbroadband map. It's the same pit! Why didn't it get fitted at the same time!

No theres deffiently something rotten in where ever!

At least I do have my Plusnet, so with that I'll have to stay!

Apols if Ive missed something or if youve already tried last time... can you try escalate this to the topmen at Openreach?  Its not your preferred alt net, but it could still at least give you some choice for a Fibre based ISP who retail Openreach .

Hi Kitz
Yes, No worries.
Actually have OR Fibre already. Was trying to get YouFibre. As cheaper and symmetrical.
So, I'll just have to wait to see what happens.
Regards.

@Dwight you should count yourself lucky to have any access to fibre as there is none where I am and I'm just outside a city so hardly in the middle of nowhere. I've heard rumours that Wessex Internet may be building quite soon where I am but no actual timescales at present.

Hi Tubaman,
Yep it is a nice to have, hope you have something soon.
Guessing you monitor the usual channels of Thinkbroadband BIDB and ISPreview to name the ones I follow. Also one.network is good to watch for roadworks.
Happy Stalking! ;) ;)

OR is a fine network to have access to, in all honesty.

Yep, 15 years of Plusnet Copper and Fibre, and outages can be counted on one hand! So can't grumble on that.
Annual price rises on the other hand, are a pain and others are just as bad or poor customer service.
So better the devil you know!

As for getting Netomnia I'll be asking my Lease landlord again. Especially on the back of some other info I have. ;) ;)

I haven't had a broadband price increase on my OR side for years. I was with Andrews and Arnold and the price never went up...

Can't speak for Plusnet, I'd never use those :)

Ditto, each time my contract is up for renewal I call them and renegotiate. If they aren't playing ball then asking to be put through to their retentions department generally does the trick.

Well it's happening! Done all I can, but tomorrow there'll be fibre draped over the out side of the buildings! Hopefully tidaly!
Of course I'll be taking a few photos to post here, along with comparison speed tests.
