General Question About FTTP Overhead Cable Tension
« on: January 19, 2025, 08:21:12 PM »

Hi all, hope you all doing good.

Just a general question about FTTP drop wire cable between a pole and property. So you have a clamp either end, and the cable goes between both. Is there actually any pull on the cable in general or is the clamps job to secure at either side and allow the cable to just sit high with little pull.

Even with the likes of very windy days and some cable movement how much is it actually stressing? Or does it just look worse when rocking about? What real force is on the pulling between clamps?

Few questions there lol.

Thanks in advance.

Fibre itself is quite delicate, so I would imagine the overhead cable needs steel reinforcement in it just to support the weight of the cable.  In other words, it will behave like any other overhead cable, the fact that it is fibre being irrelevant.
