SoGFast 330/50 cease on the line. Using Mozillion
« on: December 04, 2024, 01:11:21 AM »

My SoGFast 330/50 with UnchainedISP has now finished as Openreach finally cease on my line. No broadband service.

Using my 5G Hub now with Mozillion (BTw Network) paying 16 pound a month on a 24 months contract (total unlimited data)

Hope that goes well but I suspect the inconsistency of a mobile broadband connection will irritate you.

It's going to greatly help Max's mental health though, as there's not much you can look at.

meritez just saw your message on ISPreview forum - can't reply there as Mark Jackson BANNED me for lifetime as peoples think I am spam which it full of lies. But, sadly Mark won't believe me, his loss as I don't care anyway.

Yes the router will work either 4G or 5G with Mozillion SIM.

Max, you still plan to move to VM later then, or decided on using mobile broadband moving forward?

I wont bash your decision, if money is tight, the attraction of using these sims is there.  Just hope though with the 2 year commitment it doesnt have problems later down the line.

I suppose it depends on your requirements.  Your fixation is on a need for speed and how fast you can get on a speed test. Dedicated gamers wouldn't be so chuffed with the jump from 8ms to 30ms latency.

An increased latency of 22ms is more than the ~8ms from interleaving and DLM that you hated.
It has to be said that 8ms is quicker than blink of an eye, supposedly unnoticeable by humans. In a similar way you'd not really notice the difference in speed between 75Mbps and 80Mbps for general internet usage.   Obviously if you are constantly downloading 24/7 that extra 5Mbps may be beneficial..  but a 75Mbps line with Error Correction could actually be faster than an unstable 80Mbps.

I think the problem with a fixed line dsl, is that you knew the line rate and the max speed that you could get.  Unlike the average man in the street you knew from your line stats when the DLM had kicked in.  You also knew that when DLM kicked in, not only did it add to your latency, but it could also reduce your max headline speed.
So despite the fact you probably had one of the fastest dsl lines in the UK, because you constantly monitored your stats you became aware if the DLM detected any instability on your line and applied or increased Interleaving /ReTx. Without the DLM there are thousands of lines that would be unstable and unable to maintain sync.  Your hatred of the DLM became personal because you felt it was robbing you of a few Mbps when doing a speedtest.

I don't think there is too much expectation on mobile network speeds- not in the same way as fixed line.  We dont have any control over the type of error protection that is applied by the carrier.  This leads to a couple of thoughts.

Uncapped 5G data speeds, on the UK's best network
It's a known fact they are using EE.   They will obviously be having to pay for 'x' amount of traffic in a similar way an ISP would to use BTw backhauls and ensure that they purchase sufficient bandwidth.  I wonder what the effect would be if they attract too many users who would hammer an uncapped 16pm.  Would 5G be attractive to really heavy users?    These days its very easy for a family with a couple of teens to be what a few years ago was considered high usage without them even trying.
I think my concern would be for a 24month contract especially with not knowing when FTTP will be available.  Part of me cant help but think Openreach are deliberately being vague about your address for fear of making promises they cant strictly adhere to.  I would have been more tempted to pay the extra quid for 12m.

I'm interested in your set up and kit used.
What did you get, and how much did it cost to get someone to mount it?

Don't get me wrong, the Sogfast wasa excellent over the year with no DLM at all. Very stable G.fast 275/36 in coldest winter but drop to 210/29 in hottest summer. But, the SoGfast is too costy now @ 70 pound per month! Also the ISP told me there is no downgrade pathway from Sogfast to SoGEA and put the cease on the line instead.

The EE 5G - I am not going to spend all day look at the speed test. Cos I have to RESPECT EE data allowance Unlimited (I believe Mozillion have the same EE policy FUP usage of no more than 650GB per month) my daughter and her boyfriend been tested using xbox - no issues over the last 2 months using 1p mobile EE before switch over to Mozillion.

I could have easy order the SoGEA 80/20 if I want, but I don't need it. The 5G is all fine. Normally getting 250 to 400Meg down and 40 to 60Meg up 7am to 12am. Then after 12am to 7am it will be around 100 to 125 down and 90 to 110 up.

I brought the 5G antenna x 4 from amazon and the pole up the roof by the wall, I did it all that myself with my friend helping me last summer preparing for 5G.

EE 4G LTE are very good in my area with excellent signal -57dBm indoor with TP Link 4G LTE router with download of 200Meg and upload of 110Meg - always constant speed 24/7 than 5G

Always best to read the T&Cs before signing up to a contract. You have contracted to an unlimited data personal mobile plan and that is not the same as a home internet service.

Lucky me mozillion support understood my disability and cancelled my 24 months contract immediately!

Look like I have to order SoGEA 80/20 tomorrow.

Oh no.  There goes that plan.   I did wonder, there are pitfalls committing yourself for a long period if they didnt have any sort of policing to protect their network. It could only take a few heavy users in one location to cause congestion. I don't think anyone would like to be sharing a link with a few heavy users that causes your own speeds to plummet. Where does that leave you now? Does that give you a get out of jail card to be able to exit your contract and will it now be back to plan B with VM?

Thanks for sharing this info as it may prove insightful for others.  I must admit that having to watch my outgoing expenses 17pm seemed quite attractive.  The thought of sharing it with a couple of heavy users wasn't.
