Thanks all good so far. 5G better than Sogfast.
I suppose it depends on your requirements. Your fixation is on a need for speed and how fast you can get on a speed test. Dedicated gamers wouldn't be so chuffed with the jump from 8ms to 30ms latency.
An increased latency of 22ms is more than the ~8ms from interleaving and DLM that you hated.
It has to be said that 8ms is quicker than blink of an eye, supposedly unnoticeable by humans. In a similar way you'd not really notice the difference in speed between 75Mbps and 80Mbps for general internet usage. Obviously if you are constantly downloading 24/7 that extra 5Mbps may be beneficial.. but a 75Mbps line with Error Correction could actually be faster than an unstable 80Mbps.
I think the problem with a fixed line dsl, is that you knew the line rate and the max speed that you could get. Unlike the average man in the street you knew from your line stats when the DLM had kicked in. You also knew that when DLM kicked in, not only did it add to your latency, but it could also reduce your max headline speed.
So despite the fact you probably had one of the fastest dsl lines in the UK, because you constantly monitored your stats you became aware if the DLM detected any instability on your line and applied or increased Interleaving /ReTx. Without the DLM there are thousands of lines that would be unstable and unable to maintain sync. Your hatred of the DLM became personal because you felt it was robbing you of a few Mbps when doing a speedtest.
I don't think there is too much expectation on mobile network speeds- not in the same way as fixed line. We dont have any control over the type of error protection that is applied by the carrier. This leads to a couple of thoughts.
Mozillion SIM.
Uncapped 5G data speeds, on the UK's best network
It's a known fact they are using EE. They will obviously be having to pay for 'x' amount of traffic in a similar way an ISP would to use BTw backhauls and ensure that they purchase sufficient bandwidth. I wonder what the effect would be if they attract too many users who would hammer an uncapped 16pm. Would 5G be attractive to really heavy users? These days its very easy for a family with a couple of teens to be what a few years ago was considered high usage without them even trying.
I think my concern would be for a 24month contract especially with not knowing when FTTP will be available. Part of me cant help but think Openreach are deliberately being vague about your address for fear of making promises they cant strictly adhere to. I would have been more tempted to pay the extra quid for 12m.
Awaits to hear about parabolic antenna setup
I'm interested in your set up and kit used.
What did you get, and how much did it cost to get someone to mount it?

ETA I'm a very slow typer these days and had to take a break between making this post. I originally started this earlier today so apols if something since has been duplicated.
