G Slow!
« on: November 22, 2024, 10:09:05 AM »

HI Folks
Just been checking my nephews address and his Gfast is no longer fast!
Have any other Gfast users noticed a slow down in their service.
Thanks
Dwight

Is that for new customers only?  A deterrent to push them towards FTTP? (although not great if the area is copper only).

He is actually a current user, so I've asked him if he's recently done a speed test.
But I'm thinking it is to deter, Wholesale says 330 still. So something is going on! :(

@Dwight  This has been reported by adslmax on the TBB forum, his speeds have not reduced. Just a ploy by Openreach to stop supplying it as obviously nobody will order G.Fast any more with that estimate. It was always a very limited product which only worked very close to the cabinet.

They forgot to change how much of the bar fills, g.fast still more filled than FTTC. :)

I'm also in the "they are trying to push FTTP" camp.

There's likely to be factors that will affect the result, the obvious ones being.
  • if there is FTTP available - obviously if FTTP isnt available then its a way some customers can get higher speeds.,
  • g.fast speed estimate - if the speed increase for g.fast is only slightly above FTTC
  • Live g.fast on the cab - If no one else on the cab has g.fast not encouraging new connections from that PCP
  • Price of g.fast - it may look a bit silly if the FTTP price is cheaper than g.fast.  Who would want to pay more money for a less stable product with lower speeds.

But that then gets thrown up in the air if hushcoden's result is also borked.   ???  I presume fttp isnt available to you?

I was able to get Gfast in Jan 2021 and it's been working fine, but unfortunately no FTTP on the horizon...
